Vanessa Cornett is the Director of Keyboard Studies and Associate Professor of Piano and Piano Pedagogy. She teaches piano and courses through the Graduate Programs in Music Education, including elementary and intermediate piano pedagogy, keyboard literature, and music theory pedagogy. She also directs the Certificate in Piano Pedagogy and the annual Summer Workshops in Piano Pedagogy at the University of St. Thomas. Outside of the music department she serves on the Advisory Board of the Luann Dummer Center for Women, Coordinating Council of the University Advocates for Women and Equity, Sacred Arts Festival Committee, and as co-convener of LGBTQ+ and Allies. She is a founding member of the St. Thomas Project for Mindfulness and Contemplation. An international clinician, Dr. Cornett has presented workshops and masterclasses in 15 of the United States and in the U.K., Canada, Ireland, Finland, Serbia, Croatia, Greece, Argentina, Taiwan, and South Africa. She is an active clinician for national conferences of the Music Teachers National Association, the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, and the College Music Society. She has also presented at the World Piano Conference, International Society of Music Education World Congress, International Conference on Spirituality and Music Education, International Conference of the Arts in Society, Annual Symposium of the Performing Arts Medical Association, the Centre for the Study of International Governance, and at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum. Her publications include book chapters in the fourth edition of Creative Piano Teaching, papers in American Music Teacher, the MTNA eJournal, Journal of Undergraduate Neuroscience Education, College Music Symposium, Clavier Companion, The Canadian Music Teacher / Le Professeur de Musique Canadien, and in proceedings and reference journals for the Music Teachers National Association and the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy. She is also a regular reviewer of new music, books, and recordings for Clavier Companion. She chairs the Committee on Wellness for the Pianist for the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, serves on the College Music Society Committee on Musician’s Health, chairs the Wellness Forum for the Minnesota Music Teachers Association, and serves on the editorial board for the MTNA eJournal. She received outstanding teaching awards from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the Music Academy of North Carolina.
