J. David Robertson is a professor in the Chemistry Department at the University of Missouri and associate director for Research and Education at the University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR). He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Missouri in 1982 and his doctorate in nuclear chemistry from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1986. After two years of postdoctoral research at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, Robertson joined the chemistry faculty at the University of Kentucky in 1989. He moved to the University of Missouri in 2000. His research interests are focused on the development and application of radioisotope micro-power sources (nuclear batteries), nuclear forensics and radioisotopes for targeted cancer therapy. Robertson has published more than 175 research articles and has served as an expert witness in radiochemistry both in the United States and Canada. He served as the chair of the Division of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology of the American Chemical Society in 2006, was named the 2006 University of Missouri William H. Byler Distinguished Professor, was named a Fellow of the American Chemical Society (ACS) in 2010 and is the director for the ACS sponsored National Nuclear Chemistry Summer School program. As associate director, Robertson provides leadership for the research and education programs at MURR and facilitates the use of the research reactor by academia, government labs and industry.
