简介

Judith Briggs received a BA in Literature from the American University, an MFA in Painting from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in Art Education from The Pennsylvania State University. Her current research deals with urban education, race, and identity politics as well as the incorporation of the New South Wales (NSW) Australia Visual Arts Syllabi constructs into U.S. K-12 art curricula. Since 1997, NSW visual arts educators have successfully used the innovative constructs of the Conceptual Framework: the artist, the audience, the artwork, and the world, and the Frames: Subjective, Structural, Cultural, and Postmodern, value systems of viewing and creating artwork, to enable their students to talk about, to write about, and to make artwork that reflects both contemporary and historical concerns. Briggs has worked with her ISU Art Education Area colleagues to enable ISU art education teacher candidates to create and to teach curricula that reflect these practices that also include both U.S. Common Core and National Visual Arts Standards. Consequently, the ISU Art Education Area has established a collaborative relationship with visual arts educators at the University of NSW in Sydney and in Sydney secondary schools that includes educational sharing and ISU summer courses abroad to visit NSW visual arts classrooms. Briggs has published her research in national journals and is a regular presenter at national, state, and local educational conferences.
