Associate Professor Wayne Beckner acquired a B.A. from Morningside College and received an M.F.A. in painting from The University of Missouri. He has eighteen years of experience teaching art in public schools, including twelve years in the elementary schools of Columbia, Missouri. He joined the faculty at Illinois State University in 2001 and teaches courses in art education. His artwork reflects his interest in the power and innocence of children’s art. His trompe l’oeil paintings explore the visual and psychological tensions created when childlike images and methods of working are juxtaposed with adult themes and conventions. His artwork has received numerous awards in juried exhibitions including purchase awards from Watercolor U.S.A. and the Kansas Watercolor Society’s Seven State Exhibition. Two of his paintings are in the collection of The Springfield Art Museum in Springfield, Missouri.
