Donna Herrin-Griffith, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE, FAAN is Assistant Professor with a dual appointment in the School of Health Professions/Masters Health Services Administration program and leadership programs with the School of Nursing. In the MSHA program she coaches and mentors students during the residency year. Additionally, she serves as guest expert for students in the Health Care Management program.
Ms. Herrin-Griffith has more than 30 years of executive experience in healthcare, specializing in healthcare operations, workforce and leader development, and succession planning. Having started her career as a registered nurse and progressing to senior executive roles, Donna has first-hand knowledge of the challenges and opportunities surrounding hospitals and health systems. Her background includes positions as Senior Vice President of Operations, Chief Nurse Executive, Chief Patient Care/Nursing Officer and Workforce Development Executive. Donna’s experience as a recognized leader was acknowledged as she was elected national President for the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE). Donna also serves as a health care industry consultant where projects have included operational assessments, executive search projects, academic program evaluation, staffing analysis and a project to plan, build and operationalize an academic medical center in the Middle East (Doha, Qatar). She recently served as Senior Vice President / System Chief Patient Care and Quality Officer at a top health system in Florida. There she led system operations, as well as performance improvement efforts of the system’s three hospitals and access points. Donna also led the development and implementation of quality and safety programs that incorporated Lean methodologies, implementation of electronic EMR system, new hospital design and opening, leadership development/succession planning and physician/community partnerships.
