Christi-Anne Castro joined the University of Michigan faculty in 2005. Her music research interests include identity, cultural politics, nationalism, and gender. Her most recent research project deals with music and health, and, related to this, in 2010-2011 she participated in the Faculty Scholars Program in Integrative Medicine at the University of Michigan. Professor Castro's book, Musical Renderings of the Philippine Nation, is a cultural history published by Oxford University Press in 2011. Her other publications include articles on music in the Philippines, new media and hybridity, and Asian Americans in popular music. Professor Castro has received a number of grants and fellowships to further her research, including a Rackham Research Fellowship and grants from the Center for Research, Learning, and Teaching, the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, and the Center for World Performance Studies. She also received an honorable mention for the Woodrow Wilson Junior Faculty Enhancement Award. She teaches a variety of courses, including Music of Latin America and the Caribbean, Music of Asia II, Music and the Body, Music and Nationalism: A Global Perspective, and Music, Gender, and Sexuality. Professor Castro has served on the council of the Society for Ethnomusicology and on the editorial board of Asian Music.
