Prof. Eric Loth is a graduate from of the University of Michigan where he obtained a Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering, with a dissertation on experiments of multiphase supersonic turbulent flows. He earned M.S. and B.S. degrees from Pennsylvania State University and West Virginia University, also in Aerospace Engineering, where he conducted research in the area of aerodynamic simulations. In 1990, he joined the University of Illinois as an Assistant Professor in the Aerospace Engineering Department and rose to Associate and then Full Professor by 2002. In that year, he was also named a Willett Faculty Scholar of the College of Engineering. In 2008, he was also appointed the Associate Head of Undergraduate Studies. He has held visiting appointments at University of Cambridge, Brown University, University of California San Diego, the National Energy Technology Laboratory and the Arnold Engineering and Development Center. In January 2010, he joined the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at the University of Virginia as Associate Chair of Aerospace Engineering.
