Bob Lindberg joined the faculty in the Spring of 2003, and is associated with the Department’s graduate program at the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) in Hampton, VA. From 2003 to 2012, he served as President and Executive Director of NIA. NIA is a research and graduate education institute that functions as a partner with NASA Langley Research Center. NIA was formed by a consortium of universities that includes the University of Virginia. Prior to joining NIA, Dr. Lindberg held a variety of executive and management positions with Orbital Sciences Corporation in Dulles, VA. He began his career as a research physicist with the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC, working on projects in the Navy Space Program. Dr. Lindberg is a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the American Astronautical Society. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of AIAA. He is also the vice chairman of the NASA Advisory Council’s Planetary Protection Subcommittee.
