Robert Gordon University's modern, high-tech campus at Garthdee overlooks the River Dee. The emphasis is firmly on vocational and professional courses – indeed, it calls itself "The Professional University" – and a wide range of placement options is on offer, in Britain and abroad. As a result, the university has one of the best graduate recruitment records in the UK (first in Scotland). Aberdeen is a smart and pleasant city with a cosmopolitan and rather wealthy feel to it. It's affectionately called the Granite City after the primary building material, and it really does sparkle in the sun. Within minutes of leaving the city centre, you can be surfing off the Aberdeen coast or in the heart of rural Aberdeenshire. Accommodation Accommodation is well equipped and usually shared with four to seven other students. Some flats are en suite. The rent you pay includes internet access in most properties and personal contents insurance. For 2015-16 prices start from £100 per week. Facilities You can refine your practical skills in the surroundings of the clinical skills centre, TV and radio studio, moot court, design studios, mac labs and engineering workshops. And you can keep fit at RGU Sport, which features a 25-metre swimming pool, three gyms, a climbing wall, a bouldering room, a cafe bar, three exercise studios and a large sports hall. Robert Gordon University's "Masterplan" is a £120m campus development project at the Garthdee campus which provides all students and staff with state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities. This includes a new library, and formal and informal learning and social spaces for students. The first phase is complete, with students from session 2013-14 and the local community now enjoying some of the best facilities in the UK. Transport Aberdeen's compact size makes it easy to get around the city. Aberdeen is two and half hours' drive from Edinburgh or Glasgow, and there are regular rail and bus services to most major towns and cities in the UK. Aberdeen International airport is seven miles north of the city centre.
