Bath Spa is a relatively new university that has an emphasis on creativity, culture and enterprise. It focuses on teaching quality and preparation for employment. Applications are on the increase and the university is expanding its international focus. It is split over two main sites with some satellite teaching sites. Newton Park may be a few miles from town, but it's so lovely looking you couldn't possibly mind. Bath city itself is equally dreamy, and nearby Bristol is the place to party. Accommodation Halls of residence vary between £93 and £165 a per person per week. Contract lengths are 40, 45, 48 and 51 weeks. This includes all bills for heating, lighting and hot water. All student accommodation is self-catering. Private sector rented accommodation prices vary and start from around £90+ per week. Bills are usually only included in private accommodation where a student has a room in a landlord's house, so you should expect to pay bills for electric, gas and water on top of this. Landlords generally ask for one month's rent as deposit, and often ask for half-rent payments in July and August as a retainer, although some landlords charge 12 months' full rent. Student accommodation for eligible first-year students is split across Newton Park Campus, Bankside House (near to Sion Hill Campus), UNITE Private Halls and University secured Independent Housing. Student Housing Services offers help and advice on a range of housing issues (both in Halls and the Private Sector), and applications for student housing are made online once students accept their offer, making Bath Spa their firm choice. Facilities Newton Park is the base for all students except those taking art and design subjects, and provides a study environment where historic buildings blend with modern facilities. A £70m development at Newton Park, completed in 2014, provides impressive new study facilities for students, particularly in the field of digital arts. Significant further development is taking place at Newton Park and should be completed during 2014. The £70-million development will provide new teaching, social and residential facilities that will enable another 550 students to be housed on campus. A second campus at Sion Hill, in Bath itself, houses the Bath School of Art and Design. It has recently undergone a £6-million redevelopment and boasts facilities that are among the most modern in the country. The University also has a postgraduate centre at Corsham Court, a 16th-century manor house near Chippenham. A teacher training centre on the site of Bath Community Academy is establishing a specialist Bath Spa Institute for Education at Hartham Park in Corsham, offering a range education study and research opportunities. About a third of the students are postgraduates, including a large cohort training to be teachers. Transport About 90 minutes to London by train; Bristol is virtually on the doorstep.
