The Carter G. Woodson Institute was established in 1981 in response to student and faculty demands for a more coherent African-American and African Studies program and a more aggressive program of minority recruitment at the University. The Institute offers several interdisciplinary undergraduate programs including: Major in African American and African Studies (AAS) Major Worksheet for African American and African Studies (pdf) Minor in African American and African Studies (AAS) Minor in African American and African Studies Form (pdf) Minor in African Studies (AS) Minor in African Studies Form (pdf) Distinguished Majors Program (DMP) for qualified students who wish to do intensive research culminating in a thesis.
