The Arabic and Middle East Studies major includes foreign language courses in addition to those highlighting the political and cultural affairs of the Middle East. The importance of the Middle East in national and international affairs has grown significantly over the past decade, and consequently, so has the need for workers who are versed in Arabic language and culture. Available courses include: Quranic Arabic and Related Texts Media and Popular Culture in the Arabic-Speaking World Spoken Arabic Classical Arabic Texts Governments and Politics of the Middle East Students graduating with an Arabic and Middle East Studies major can expect to find career opportunities in journalism, international business and industry, government and foreign service, translating and interpreting, consulting, and more. A number of students have also gone on to complete graduate studies in similar areas. Though not a requirement, students are encouraged study abroad. Arabic and Middle East Studies majors have a unique opportunity to study abroad at the American University in Cairo. Baylor University also offers several Living-Learning Centers. These LLC's are housing opportunities designed to place students of common interests together in living and learning environments. Baylor offers a Baylor and Beyond Living-Learning Center. Although available for all majors and classifications, the Baylor and Beyond LLC is ideal for students in language, culture and engaging the world around them
