The mission of the Department of Physics & Astronomy is to support the mission of the College of Science & Engineering and the University by providing a prestigious undergraduate and graduate education. This equips students with core knowledge in fundamental physics, opportunities to apply physical principles and techniques to a broad range of problems in basic, applied, and multidisciplinary research, as well as experience in the creation of new knowledge through research. The Department has a long and storied history and currently consists of eight full-time faculty members, all of whom are actively engaged in research involving both undergraduate and graduate students. Research areas include astronomy and astrophysics, molecular spectroscopy, experimental and computational biophysics. Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to further their professional development through attending frequent seminars by visiting physicists on current advances in physics and astronomy, presenting papers at national and international meetings, and publishing research results in the leading journals in their field. The department offers a National Science Foundation sponsored REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) program, and runs the TCU Research Apprentices Program (RAP), which allows high school students to participate in journal worthy research projects. SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES are available for undergraduate students.
