Professor Copeland, a CPA, joined the School of Business in 2012. Prior to completing her Ph.D. and becoming a full-time faculty member at Fisher, she taught Accounting, MIS, and Entrepreneurship at The University of Buffalo, Bowling Green State University, RIT, and Canisius College. Dr. Copeland holds a B.S./MBA (accounting) from the University of Buffalo and a Ph.D. from Regent University. Dr. Copeland's primary teaching responsibilities are in the areas of financial accounting, accounting information systems, and entrepreneurship. Professor Copeland’s research interests include ethics, leadership, and practice improvement in the accounting profession, entrepreneurial finance, and financial management. She has published fifteen peer reviewed journals and publications, one book chapter, and one textbook. Dr. Copeland has published articles in the CPA Journal, Research on Professional Responsibility and Ethics in Accounting, the Business Education Forum, numerous American Accounting Associations National Conference Proceedings, and the MBA Review. In 2013, Dr. Copeland’s research in ethics in the accounting profession earned a Best Research/Best Paper award at the National American Accounting Association Conference. As a prior successful entrepreneur, Dr. Copeland assists in the efforts to help Fisher students acquire additional entrepreneurial skills. In 2012 and in 2014, Dr. Copeland’s student entrepreneurial teams won the New York State Business Plan Competition’s People Choice Award. Prior to completing her Ph.D., Dr. Copeland had a 25+ year career in public accounting and consulting. This included 15 years of consulting experience, five years of audit experience with a Big Four firm, and four years as a CFO. Her expertise includes strategic financial planning, budgeting and forecasting, entrepreneurship, management reporting, cost restructuring, process improvement, financial systems implementations and optimization, business planning, and start up consulting.
