职业经历

Prof. Lucia Binotti’s is a Philologist turned into a Digital Humanist. She works on material and cultural history and in the mechanisms that construct linguistic and cultural identity. She has worked on linguistic theories on the origin and development of the vernaculars, on the establishment of historiography as a discipline, on the strategies that were used to synthesize the civic values of the Renaissance into the ideological tenets of the Spanish Empire and on the discourses and rituals that constituted illicit, transgressive sexuality among early modern Spanish elites. Binotti has always been fascinated with the cultural and social parallels that the printing revolution of the sixteenth century shares with the information technology revolution of today. Her more concrete involvement with digital humanities begins in 2009, when the convergence of a series of life long scholarly interests encouraged her to envision the productive symbiosis than can be developed when one abandons the constraints of traditional disciplinary boundaries. Since then her projects have all been digital (see CV). Binotti’s latest enterprises take her reflection on the place of the humanities in 21st century education outside of the walls of academia, in an endeavor to produce artifacts that will enhance the dissemination and fruition of social and cultural knowledge among a broader public. For the last 14 years Binotti has created, shaped, groomed and directed the most awesome study abroad program ever: the UNC Honors Study Abroad in Rome.
