Ruy Burgos-Lovèce was born in Viña del Mar, Chile, in 1957. He spent 6 months as an exchange student in West Memphis, Arkansas in 1973 and moved to Venezuela immediately after that. In 1980, he graduated with a BS in Education and Physics and taught high school physics for six years. In 1984, he was back in the US and, by 1987, I had an MA in French from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He taught high school Physics and French in Fort Smith, Arkansas until 1993. In 1994, Burgos-Lovèce began translating freelance and has been doing it assiduously ever since. By 2001, he had a PhD in French Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 2003, he was hired as a lecturer at UNC-CH, where he currently teaches Spanish grammar, composition and translation.
