Description: Dr. Chen's research interests center on the statistical and computational challenges associated with the analysis of genomic data. Common diseases are thought to culminate from the accumulation of small aberrations in both germline and somatic DNA. He is interested in incorporating pathway knowledge into analytic approaches to aid in discovering risk regions in the genome that are biologically plausible. An active area of research is the design and implementation of software that runs on multi-core processors such as those found on graphic processing units, hence enabling researchers to feasibly make statistical inferences in problems traditionally thought to be computationally intractable.
