Jonathan Christman (A.B. Franklin & Marshall College, M.F.A. University of Massachusetts at Amherst) is a scenic and lighting designer for the University Theater. His many theatre productions at Wake Forest University include, Angels in America, The Cherry Orchard, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Wings and King Lear. Jonathan is a founding member of The Virtual Theatre Project. The Virtual Theatre Project’s world premiere of Belfast Blues at The Black Dahlia in Los Angles, garnered him a Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle (LADCC) award for best digital imagery design. Jonathan has continued to refine his original design for various and sundry venues and producers in Chicago, Belfast, London and New York. The recent production at the Rubicon theatre was nominated for two LA Ovation awards. Jonathan, an associate professor at Wake Forest University in North Carolina, is actively interested and involved in developing new work that integrates technology into performance. As lighting designer for the Alban Elved Dance Company he collaborated in several projects that used infrared cameras, multiple projections, laser triggered MiDi and computed fractals and aerial dance. Jon’s other interest include creating stained and fused glass projects, photography and actively trading stock options. This summer he will be designing Dead Man’s Cell Phone as the first production of the Paper Lantern Theatre Company in Winston- Salem.
