At the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, College of Architecture and Design, our students, faculty and staff strive to make the college a community of inquiry, energy and excellence by integrating research, creative activity, public service, teaching, and learning. Both in the classroom and beyond, the UT Architecture and Design fosters a spirit of curiosity that serves as a foundation for life-long learning and creative thinking. Whether it’s our world-acclaimed solar-powered house, top-ranked undergraduate architecture program, leading faculty scholars, design-build curriculum, or dynamic students, our Volunteer spirit makes us unstoppable. Founded in 1965, the College of Architecture and Design houses the top-ranked accredited programs in Architecture, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture in the state of Tennessee. The college has a dynamic and diverse faculty with specialties spanning the practice and research of contemporary design. Numerous international and regional professionals visit the college annually for public lectures, exhibits, course activities, and other events. UT Architecture and Design has a long-standing tradition to use the state as a laboratory for applied research with a direct benefit for the citizens of Tennessee. Facilities for research, creative activity, and service include the Nashville Civic Design Center, the Urban Program for Sustainable Design Education (UPSIDE), the Knoxville Downtown Design Studio, and the Burlington Studio. Facilities abroad, in such countries as Poland, Germany and Finland where we have international study programs, are also available to students. Exposure to other cultures and ideas is central to the curriculum of the College of Architecture and Design. Students are provided with numerous resources. Every student is assigned a desk in the award-winning Art + Architecture Building, one of the finest facilities for the study of architecture, interior design and landscape architecture in the country. We are fully equipped with a full-service print and image center, a woodshop, a state of the art digital technology staging center – the FABLAB – that includes laser cutters, 3-D digital modeling and equipment; a materials library, computer lab, technology support for all laptops and technology services, an acclaimed art and architecture museum – the Ewing Gallery – and an art and architecture supply store. The College of Architecture and Design is part of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville – the state’s flagship campus in educational programs, research and creative activity, and public service. The university offers more than 300 undergraduate, graduate and/or professional degree programs to its 26,000 students, who come from every county in Tennessee, every state in the nation and more than 95 countries. All students in the College of Architecture and Design are encouraged to take courses from departments throughout the university. Furthermore, UT provides important student support services related to campus living – the library, activities and events, recreation, advising, counseling, career placement, health, orientation, and financial aid.
