Mark A. Temple is an Associate Professor in the Health Education Program in the Department of Health Sciences. His Ph.D. in Health Education with an emphasis in School Health is from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Mark has worked as public school teacher in his native Louisiana and served as HIV/AIDS Education Coordinator in an Illinois county health department. These experiences allow him to bring a realistic, practical approach to his teaching and scholarship. In his time at Illinois State University, he has taught a range of courses that include Foundations of Health Education, Programs in School Health, Curriculum & Evaluation in School Health, and Dynamics of Contemporary U.S. Health Problems. Mark is actively involved in several professional associations. He has served on the Executive Committee of the American School Health Association (ASHA). In 2002, he received the Distinguished Service Award from ASHA. He is also a member of the Board of Examiners for the National Council of Accreditation of Teacher Education. He is a former President of the Illinois School Health Association. Mark is a Fellow of the American Cancer Society"s National School Health Coordinator Leadership Institute. On campus, he serves as the Dean"s representative to the Council for Teacher Education. Presently, his scholarship is focused on school health and efforts to create healthy and high performing schools.
