Adrian R. Lyde is an Assistant Professor in the Health Education Program in the Department of Health Sciences. Adrian has 17 years’ experience in Health Education, including teaching at the middle school and university levels, serving as health administrator for Head Start, and as a clinical experience placement coordinator for ISU's Lauby Teacher Education Center. Adrian's experience uniquely prepared her to teach both school and community health courses as well as serve as the coordinator of the school health sequence. Adrian's scholarship interests include advocacy as a professional health educator responsibility, school health programs and related policy, and teaching and learning, including professional development in Health Education. Adrian's work in advocacy has primarily been at the state and national level, advocating for policy, regulations, and appropriations to support public health programs and highly qualified school teachers in the areas of health and physical education. She made her first visit to Congress at ten years old and has returned many times to visit Congressional Representatives, Senators, and their staff members to advocate on behalf of public health and education programs. Adrian is an active member of several professional associations, including the American School Health Association (ASHA). She received the ASHA's Distinguished Service Award in 2009.
