Daniel Hone received his AB degree from UC Berkeley in 1958 and his Ph.D. in 1962 from the University of Illinois, where he was an NSF Predoctoral Fellow. After a year as an NAS-NRC Postdoctoral Fellow at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris he joined the physics faculty at the University of Pennsylvania and moved to UCSB in 1967. He served as Chair of the Physics Department from 1982 to 1986, and as Associate and then Acting Dean of Mathematical, Life, and Physical Sciences from 1991 to 1994. At the KITP he was Deputy Director from 1994 to 2004, and Director of Outreach and Education from 2005 to 2012. His research has been in theoretical condensed matter physics. Honors include election to fellowship in the American Physical Society and selection as Edward Dickson Emeritus Professor (2007). He was a Senior Visiting Lecturer at Oxford University (1974), Professeur d'Echange at Orsay (1973), and a JSPS Fellow at the ISSP of Tokyo University (1982).
