I have been a professional writer for over 30 years and began teaching in 1997. I started my writing career as a journalist, where I wrote features, magazine articles, book reviews, and a medical column at the Los Angeles Daily News. Later I worked in several other fields as a writer. In high tech, I was a marketing communications writer for a Santa Barbara software firm, Miramar Systems, and the managing editor for an e-commerce company whose focus was medical topics. I was in corporate communications for one of Tribune Company’s newspapers, where I wrote Strategic Plans, Operating Plans, Capital Appropriations Requests, Training Manuals, newsletters, and a Cable Television Franchise Proposal. I worked briefly in the film industry for companies including NBC, Viacom, Interscope, and others, for whom I wrote story analyses. In addition to teaching, I am the primary writer for BizComBuzz http://bizcombuzz.com/ a blog geared to instructors of business communication. Before that, I was the primary writer/editor for textbook author Dr. Mary Ellen Guffey's e-newsletter for nine years.
