Tine Sloan is Director of the Teacher Education Program in the Department of Education. The program prepares elementary, secondary, and special education teachers. As such, her primary work involves coordination of all curriculum, instruction, and student teaching to ensure high quality teacher preparation that meets the needs of the State, and the students and communities served by UCSB teacher graduates. She also represents University of California as a Commissioner on the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, the body responsible for setting certification and accreditation policy for the state. She is actively involved in the California and national initiatives on teaching performance assessments (PACT and edTPA), serving on development and implementation teams and as a consultant to states and other institutions. Her primary research interests revolve around teacher education, particularly with respect to use of performance assessment in candidate and faculty learning, and the use of performance data for program improvement. Her courses focus on issues in human development, educational psychology, teacher education, and assessment. All of her work is framed by her primary interest in understanding and advocating for the well being of children in educational contexts. Prior to her position at UCSB she was a member of the faculty at the National Institute of Education in Singapore.
