简介

My current research focuses on twentieth century political theatre. I am working on a book, “Theatre on Trial: Staging Justice in the Postwar Period,” about theatrical adaptations of postwar trials. By restaging courtroom trials, directors and playwrights like Bertolt Brecht, Erwin Piscator, and Peter Weiss articulated a new role for theatre as a public institution that treated audiences as juries and sought to effect forms of ethical justice inaccessible to legal proceedings. My other teaching and research interests include opera, modernism, artistic collaboration, and the interactions between literature, music, and visual arts. I am also a director and dramaturge and currently serve on the advisory board of Morningside Opera, a New York-based company dedicated to pushing the boundaries of operatic form.
