As a writer, I work in a variety of genres. I’ve published stories, essays, an op-ed piece, a novel for adult readers, two novels for children, and two memoirs, one a New York Times Notable Book. See www.williamloizeaux.com for details. I have another children’s novel in progress. Before coming to BU, I was Writer in Residence at Johns Hopkins, where I taught graduate readings seminars in essay and memoir, and writing workshops in fiction and nonfiction. I have also taught regularly at the Aspen Writer’s Foundation summer workshops. At BU, I am focusing on seminars and workshops in literary nonfiction, where I hope to heighten students’ appreciation of this wide-ranging genre and to encourage them to write publishable literary nonfiction themselves. I believe that good readers make good writers and that good writing comes from both individual and collaborative inspiration.
