There aren't many universities that can boast a world heritage site, but this one can. The main campus is on the banks of the Thames in three baroque buildings designed by Sir Christopher Wren at the end of the 17th century. Other sites are Avery Hill, in an 86-acre park in Eltham, south-east London, and Medway, another charming campus full of Edwardian redbrick and ivy, near Chatham's historic dockyard. As a result, the 28,000 students are spread between city and more rural locations. In the latest national student survey, 86% of Greenwich's final-year students say that they are satisfied with the quality of their degree courses. Facilities The University of Greenwich was an official host venue for the London 2012 Games. The university's student union building was part of the Greenwich Park venue for the Games, providing management facilities for the equestrian sports, along with running and shooting in the modern pentathlon. Major libraries, computing facilities, student union facilities, catering facilities and bars at all campuses. Avery Hill's bar has been transformed into a cafe bar with twice the capacity, and there is a gym and sports fields on campus. Medway has a sports centre. Greenwich is close to a council-run sports centre, as well as plenty of bars, restaurants and takeaways. It is also just down the river from the 02 Arena, voted the best-attended music venue in the world. The university has begun building a new school of architecture, design and construction together with a library, TV studios, large lecture theatres, a gallery and a cafe at a site in the heart of Greenwich town centre. Transport The Greenwich campus can be reached by Docklands Light Railway, rail and boat. You can be at London Bridge in 10 minutes. Avery Hill to London Bridge involves a 10-15 minute walk to the station and a 25-minute rail journey. The Medway campus takes 45 minutes from London by train, then bus in Medway, which stops on the campus. Greenwich provides a bus service between all three campuses. The Avery Hill to Greenwich service is free. There is also a free service between Avery Hill campus and Falconwood station.
