UCLan is one of the country's largest universities, with 35,000 students. In 2010, it became the first modern university to appear in the QS World University Rankings, and continues to do so. Uclan has invested heavily in its research activity, and in the latest research assessment, 59% of the research submitted by the university was recognised as being world-leading or of international standing. UCLan is consistently in the UK's top three for the number of graduate start-ups. Latest statistics show that 77% are still trading after two years. All courses have an employability strand, and there are some interesting ones to choose from: how about the UK's first BSc (Hons) in airport security management, which has been developed in conjunction with the police and the aviation industry? Accommodation Weekly costs are £79.03 to £83.02 for a non en-suite room and £97.37 to £99.54 for an en-suite room in university owned and leased halls of residence. Facilities One hundred and twenty million pounds is currently being invested in new facilities, including the £13m Sir Tom Finney sports centre and £12.5m J B Firth forensic science and pharmacy building. Other new facilities include the £15m Media Factory, which supports work in art, design and performing arts, as well as providing business facilities for entrepreneurial undergraduates; a £10m Burnley campus; the £2m restoration of Tyn Dwr outdoor sports centre in north Wales; and the £5m redevelopment of Westlakes campus in Cumbria. Transport The campus is located on the edge of the city centre - it's a 10-minute walk/two-minute bus ride into the main shopping area, and just over two hours on the train to London or Glasgow, and an hour from Manchester.
