Nadarajah Narendran, Ph.D., is Director of Research at the Lighting Research Center (LRC) and Professor of Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Narendran is well known throughout the lighting industry for his pioneering research and educational activities in the field of solid-state lighting. His research focus is in the areas of LED performance, packaging, and lighting application. Narendran leads a team of researchers and educators that conduct programs to accelerate the development and market transformation of this promising technology. Narendran teaches the Physics of Light course in the LRC’s graduate education program and oversees Ph.D. and M.S. level theses. In addition, he has developed and taught professional courses in optics, LEDs, and fiber optic lighting. Narendran has authored or co-authored more than 110 scientific and technical articles related to lighting technologies and measurements and holds several patents. He is a Fellow of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America. Narendran received the William H. Wiley Distinguished Faculty Award in 2012 that honors those who have won the respect of the faculty at Rensselaer through excellence in teaching, productive research, and interest in the totality of the educational process.
