Tim Cheng worked at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, NJ, from 1988 to 1993 and joined the faculty at UC Santa Barbara in 1993 where he is currently Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He was the Founding Director (1999-2002) of UCSB\'s Computer Engineering program and former Chair (2005-2008) of the ECE Department. He also served as Visiting Professor at Univ. of Tokyo Japan, Peking University China, National TsingHua University Taiwan, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Zhejiang University China. He has published over 350 technical papers, co-authored five books and holds 12 U.S. Patents. Cheng, a fellow of IEEE, received more than 10 Best Paper Awards at various IEEE and international conferences and journals and a UCSB College of Engineering Outstanding Teaching Faculty Award. He served as Editor-in-Chief for IEEE Design and Test of Computers and currently serves on the editorial boards of several IEEE and ACM journals. He was a board member of IEEE Council of Electronic Design Automation’s Board of Governors, IEEE Computer Society’s Publication Board, and working groups of International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS). He has also served as General and Program Chair for several international conferences including IEEE International Test Conference and International Symposium on VLSI Design, Automation and Test (VLSI-DAT).
