Dr. Teel was a post-doctoral researcher at Ecole des Mines De Paris during the second half of 1992. From 1993 to the middle of 1997 he served on the faculty in the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Teel joined the UCSB ECE faculty in 1997 as an associate professor and was promoted to professor in 1999. He was the director of the Engineering College's Center for Control Engineering and Computation from April 2003 to April 2005. He is the area editor for nonlinear systems and control for the IFAC journal Automatica, and a member of the IEEE Control Systems Society Board of Governors.
