Adrienne Boris is a director of theatre and opera based in Boston. Active in the Boston fringe community, Adrienne co-founded Exquisite Corps Theatre with the goal of producing new and contemporary work. With Exquisite Corps, she directed several new plays and line produced several other full productions, including the Boston premiere of Canadian playwright Claudia Dey’s Trout Stanley. Adrienne’s production of Edward Albee’s The Play About the Baby at the Boston Center for the Arts received a nomination for Best Director from Boston Broadway World. Adrienne has also worked with Arts After Hours, Simple Machine Theatre Company, Holland Productions, Another Country Productions, and others. Adrienne recently earned her MFA in Directing at Boston University School of Theatre where favorite credits include Naomi Wallace’s The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek, the Femina Shakes (all female) production of Romeo and Juliet, and a full production of MFA playwright Stephanie Brownell’s new play She Eats Apples (winner of the National Partners in American Theatre Excellence in Playwriting Award). Adrienne has worked as a director of opera with several companies, including Opera Providence, NEMPAC Opera Project, and Opera North, where she was the 2013 Young Artist Stage Director. With Opera Boston Underground, she staged several operas in non-traditional spaces throughout Boston including Kurt Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins in The Lizard Lounge bar, Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti at Cafe 939 at Berklee. Her productions of Salieri’s First the Music and then The Words and Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienna were each performed as part of the First Night Boston municipal New Year’s Eve celebration. Adrienne currently serves as the National New Play Network Producer-in-Residence at New Repertory Theatre, Artistic Associate at OperaHub, and is a Member of the 2015-2016 Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation Observership Class. She also maintains a busy freelance directing career and a private monologue coaching studio.
