Christine Hamel is an actor, singer, voice and text coach, and director, and teaches various aspects of performance: speech & dialects, voice, singing, and a psycho-physical/image approach to acting. A proud member of the Actor’s Equity Association, Christine’s most recent acting credits include Complicité’s A Disappearing Number (Underground Railway/Central Square Theatre) and On The Verge (New Repertory Theatre). She has appeared onstage with many other companies in the region, including Actors’ Shakespeare Project, Wellesley Summer Theatre, Boston Center for American Performance (BCAP), Stoneham Theatre, Village Theatre Project, Apollinaire Theatre Company, Simple Machine, Theatre Cooperative, Boston Director’s Lab, Devanaughn Theatre, North Shore Music Theatre, and Olney Theatre Center (DC). Upcoming performances include the Huntington Theatre Company’s 2015 Summer Workshop, and Broken Glass at the New Repertory Theatre. Christine has worked extensively as a voice and dialect coach regionally, most recently for A Taste of Sunrise (Boston’s Ware Trilogy event/Wheelock Family Theatre), Measure for Measure (Actors’ Shakespeare Project), and Awake, and Sing! (Huntington Theatre Company). Other companies for whom she has coached include Merrimack Repertory Theatre, Boston Center for American Performance, Underground Railway Theatre, New Repertory Theatre, Stoneham Theatre, Company One, Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts, Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, Gloucester Stage, Boston Children’s Theatre, Wellesley Summer Theatre, Speakeasy Stage Company, Vineyard Playhouse, Theatre Espresso, and First Stage @ Lyric Stage Company. Christine served as a regional voice consultant for the world premiere of Larry David’s Fish in the Dark (Cort Theatre – Broadway). Upcoming coaching includes Danai Gurira’s The Convert at Underground Railway Theatre. As a director, Christine most recently staged Antonia Lassar’s solo show God Box (New Repertory Theatre) and Ibrahim Miari’s solo piece In Between (BU). She is the director of the School of Theatre’s Femina Shakes (all-female Shakespeare) initiative, which is aimed at providing young women an opportunity to inhabit roles exploring power, authority, and violence unconstrained by limitations of gender in more conventional narratives, for which she has directed Julius Caesar and Titus Andronicus. She has also directed for Village Theatre Project, Boston Theatre Marathon, BU Opera Programs, and Walnut Hill School for the Arts. Christine has served as a full-time faculty member at BU since 2006; she has also had faculty appointments at The Boston Conservatory, Emerson College, Longy School of Music, Walnut Hill School, Commonwealth Shakespeare Summer Academy, BU Opera Programs, and the BU Summer Theatre Institute (BUSTI).
