Richard R. Bunbury is a Lecturer in Music at BU, with teaching responsibilities in both Music Education and Musicology Departments, having served as the Chair ad interim of the latter, and is also adjunct faculty in the School of Theology. He previously served in similar positions at the Boston Conservatory, and taught at Aquinas, Simmons and Bunker Hill Community Colleges. Bunbury has conducted several area choral and instrumental ensembles and district festivals, including the Choral Art Society, the Parkway Concert Orchestra, the Keene Chorale, and Chamber Singers, and was orchestral conducting fellow at the University of Hartford. Bunbury began his teaching career in K-8 general and choral music while serving as organist and music director of a nationally recognized church music program. He has had an active career as an organist, harpsichordist and singer, having given recitals and workshops in the US and abroad. Credits include regular performances in the Three Choirs Festival, the Boston Early Music Festival Fringe, and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus. Bunbury serves as a music critic for the Boston Musical Intelligencer and Aftsfuse.org. He has published articles in MLA Notes, The American Organist, Pastoral Music, and Catholic Music Educator; New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, the New Grove Dictionary of American Music and Musicians, The Encyclopedia of 20th Century Musicians and Composers and was editor of Sacred Christmas Music. He has presented papers at AMS-NE, VMEA, CMS, CMS-NE and Mayday conferences and continues to serve on committees and boards of numerous professional organizations. His research interests include the history of music education, assessment and curriculum, and the pedagogy of music history. Bunbury earned a BA from Armstrong Atlantic State University (where is was named Distinguished Alumnus of 2014) an MM in Musicology and Organ Performance from New England Conservatory, an MA in Education from Boston College, and a PhD in Music from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
