Dr. Kos teaches courses in Contemporary Issues, Psychology & Sociology, Research Methods, and Secondary General Music, as well as Introduction to Music Education. Prior to his appointment at Boston University, he taught undergraduate courses in music education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He taught instrumental, choral, and general music in Illinois and Wisconsin. His research interests include critical analysis of education policy, state and federal education policy implementation, identity development in pre-service teachers, and professional development for in-service teachers. He regularly presents research at national and international conferences. He has published articles in Arts Education Policy Review, Visions of Research in Music Education, Journal of Artistic and Creative Education, and Massachusetts Music News. He is a member of the editorial board for the book series Advances in Music Education Research. His professional affiliations include memberships in The American Educational Research Association (Music Education SIG program chair), the Society for Music Teacher Education (Facilitator of the Policy ASPA), the National Association for Music Education Education, The International Society for Music Education, the College Music Society, the Percussive Arts Society, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Prior to his appointment at Boston University, he taught undergraduate courses in music education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
