Diana Hampe is a veteran teacher with 34 years of practical experience. After 13 years of teaching grades 7 and 8 at South Junior High in Brockton, she elected to teach at Walpole High School and was responsible for building the sequential art program 9-12 that has grown from six sections of art to twenty. Aligning with the AP format, students may elect I, II, or III/AP in Studio Art: Drawing, 2D Design or 3D Design. She was named Visual Arts Curriculum Coordinator K-12 for the Walpole Public Schools in 1997 and continues with her teaching responsibilities, Drawing and Painting I, II, III, and Advanced Placement Studio Art: Drawing. Ms. Hampe’s commitment to art education is reflected in her students’ work and their accomplishments. Annual trips to the New York City museums, custom art tours to England, France, and Italy and guest artists have broadened her students’ exposure to art. A corporate connection made in 1993, the Tyco-Kendall Healthcare Art at Work Exhibition Series, has brought art to the community with 3 thematic student exhibits presented in the corporate headquarters. An annual K-12 Stages of Artistic Development exhibit hosted by Barnes and Noble, 2 international art exchanges with Beijing, China, and the District Art Show complete a comprehensive program. Diana’s background includes memberships in professional organizations, numerous awards, administrative positions, exhibitions, and conference presentations. Named Massachusetts Outstanding Art Educator by MAEA twice in 1985 and 2002 and by the Massachusetts Alliance for the Arts in 1995, Diana has presented at NAEA conferences in Chicago, Florida, Minnesota, and Boston, chaired Youth Art Month for Massachusetts 1981-83, and is Co-chair of the Massachusetts Scholastic Art Awards Advisory Council. In addition, Diana has served as a Scholastic Art Awards jurist in New Hampshire, a panelist for Art All State, and an AP reader to grade the Studio Art portfolios for the past 6 years. With a BA from Regis College, study in Florence Italy, and an MFA in Art Education from Boston University she brings authentic experience to an additional teaching responsibility at Boston University.
